Commissioned Portrait of Norwegian Professor
Commissioned Portrait of Norwegian Professor
Commissioned by the sitter for his 50th birthday, March 2023.
Commissioning a painting is a personal and rewarding experience — whether a portrait, a romantic subject, or a symbolic composition. Each work is created entirely by hand in my studio, using traditional oil techniques and materials of the highest quality.
I usually begin with an initial discussion by email, after which I’ll review any reference material — photographs, sketches, or ideas — and advise on the best composition and size.
The smallest formal portrait I offer is 12” × 16” (plus frame), from £1,550.
A medium size, approximately 16” × 22”, is £2,200.
Larger works are quoted individually once I’ve seen the proposed subject and scale.
Typical completion time is three to six weeks, depending on complexity and current studio schedule.
A 50% deposit confirms the commission and secures my time and materials.
The balance is due upon completion and before delivery or collection.
Clients are invited to view the finished work (either in person or by high-resolution photograph).
Minor adjustments can be made if needed, provided they remain consistent with the painting’s established style and composition.
Each work reflects my artistic language — this ensures the integrity and quality of the finished piece.
The deposit is non-refundable once work has begun.
If, in the unlikely event, a finished painting is declined, ownership reverts to me.
This simply covers time, materials, and the creative process.
All copyright and reproduction rights remain with me, though the client naturally owns the physical artwork.
I reserve the right to photograph and exhibit the painting as part of my professional portfolio unless otherwise agreed.
