‘Purity Within’

£2,500.00

Oil on canvas, approximately 16 × 18 inches (plus frame)

‘Purity Within’ depicts a young woman seated in a muted interior, her posture withdrawn yet composed. The surrounding field of grey-blue modulations serves less as background than as atmosphere; it suspends the figure in a state of reflective containment.

Light is measured, tracing the contour of the arms and the folds of fabric. The balance between the soft texture of skin and the cool neutrality of the ground creates an equilibrium between warmth and restraint. The composition centres upon a quiet triangle formed by her lowered head and folded limbs; a geometry of introspection.

Her gesture suggests neither melancholy nor repose, but the inward turn of consciousness. The mood recalls Rainer Maria Rilke’s Duino Elegies, where solitude becomes the vessel through which the self is refined:

“What is inward, if not intensified sky, hurled through with birds and deep with the winds of homecoming?”

In this context, Purity Within refers not to innocence but to integrity, as in, a compositional and moral alignment of the inner and outer self. The painting’s clarity rests on its restraint. Emotion is transmuted into structure; stillness becomes the condition of truth.
